Hip to be Square

Wonderful so wonderful
Is Your unfailing love
Your cross has spoken mercy over me

Well, this is sort of a testimony or more of a confession I guess about my past-present thoughts on religion, church and spirituality.
Growing up I must admit I thought to be a Christian was to be "uncool." It certainly was at the time I was in high school among my peers. And I always thought to be a Christian would be boring and more for the blue hairs than for a young girl like myself. Now, with this said, I always talked to God. Not necessarily Jesus, but I did have a relationship with God. When I did wrong I always felt ashamed and I would come to him for peace and help. I went to church as a young girl and was baptized when I was six yrs old. By my teen years...I had stopped going except like maybe for mass and Easter.
In 1996 alone in my living room along with a TV pastor I prayed for my salvation. Things were good in my life at that time. I was 22 yrs old, living with Andy, loving my friends and enjoyed my job. But still, a bit of a void in my life. The one thing that was lacking was this certain, special feeling of peace. I was the type to stay awake at night worrying over things. Happy to say I don't do that much anymore.
No, my life did not drastically change overnight and I didn't get every prayer answered. But, I found this peace in a relationship with Jesus that is the biggest high one could ever have.
From 1996 to date I have met some of the best people who are Christians and they are far from boring. Some of them like hard rock, ride motorcycles, drink A beer on occasion and SIN...because we ALL do! And if anyone ever acts like they are perfect and you are not, please remind them that even if it bugs them...Jesus loves YOU TOO!
So, I am definitely in a place where I am in the presence of some awesome people and it's not wacky, or weird, or uncool or lame. It's fun, it's normal, it's just something we have in common that bonds us like family.
People debate over this sort of thing, but I was all caught up in the legalisms of church. All of the MAN made rules and regulations kept me out of that place, lol.

Powerful so powerful
Your glory fills the skies
Your mighty works displayed for all to see
The beauty of Your majesty
Awakes my heart to sing
How marvellous how wonderful You are
You opened my eyes to Your wonders anew
You captured my heart with this love
Because nothing on earth is as beautiful as You

Your last paragraph pretty much sums up the way I am. I go to church on those special occasions but, I do not attend on a regular basis. It is all of the man made rules and in recent years, all of the scandals that have soured me on the physical church. I do believe in God the Almighty and keep Him with me always, but I just can't bring myself to get past the politics of the church.I had my church tell me that if I got married there that I had to sign a contract to bring my kids up in that religion or they could sue me. We got married elsewhere.

What a beautiful testimony, Amy! Thanks for sharing it. I agree we can so easily get caught up in traditions or man-made rules. What is really important is that we draw near to God. When we do that we will love like He wants us to and live as he tells us to!

My Posse

THE BLOGGERS PRAYER

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck,
manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly -
all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house
and take care of my family.
Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life.
And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.
